abstract The invention relates to a process for the preparation of polyamides, the polymerization of the starting monomers or starting oligomers being carried out in the presence of at least one compound of formula wherein R represents a functional group R 8 which carries from 1 to 4 identical or different amide-forming groups R 7, R 1 means H, C1-C20 alkyl, cycloalkyl, benzyl, OR6, wherein R6 represents H, C1-C20 alkyl, cycloalkyl, benzyl, R2, R3, R4, R5 independently of one another denote C1-C10 alkyl, n represents an integer, greater than 1. By the method, the R-linked piperidine derivatives are the same or different from the substituents R1, R2, R3, R4 and R5. Polymers can be used to make fibers, fibers, sheets, flat surfaces and molded bodies.
