the present provides a method for controlling huanglongbing disease (hlb) of citrus plants by expressing genes encoding synthases for sesquiterpene such as <225> -cariophylene, <244> copaene and combinations thereof, in citrus plants. methods of controlling hlb are also disclosed, comprising applying at least one purified sesquiterpene, which repels insect psilpids diaphorina citri and / or tryoza erytreae, in order to control citrus plant hlb disease. |
