CONTINUOUS PROCESS TO TREAT A LIGNOCELLULOSIC BIOMASS. A continuous process for soaking a stream of lignocellulosic biomass in an extraction solution comprising water and dissolved water-soluble species derived from a previously treated lignocellulosic biomass is disclosed. In the process, water-insoluble contaminants are separated according to their apparent mass densities. The lignocellulosic biomass stream can additionally be subjected to an optional second soaking step in a counterflow configuration. The disclosed process is useful for removing non-lignocellulosic water-soluble compounds from lignocellulosic biomass with a low consumption of water. |
