abstract |
"SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR SEALING A SPACE IN A SPACE HOLE FORMED IN AN EARTH FORMATION". A system is provided for sealing a space (7) in a wellbore (1) in a terrestrial formation (2). The system comprises an swellable body (12) arranged in the well bore in such a way as to seal said space by swell of said swellable body, the swellable body being susceptible to contact with forming water (4) flowing into the borehole. well, the swellable body including a matrix material provided with a soluble compound in said forming water. The matrix material substantially prevents or restricts the migration of the compound out of the swellable body and permits migration of said forming water to the swellable body by osmosis so as to induce swelling of the swellable body upon migration of said formation water to the swelling body. |
