abstract INTERNAL FUEL ENGINE. The present invention relates to an internal combustion engine that can be operated with a mixed fuel composed of alcohol and gasoline and is excellent in fuel efficiency and durability. A separator 40 separates the mixed fuel, which is composed of gasoline and ethanol, into high concentration ethanol and high concentration gasoline. A reformed fuel supply device 32 supplies high concentration ethanol, as a reformed fuel, in an exhaust gas removed through a branch pipe 30. A fuel reforming catalyst sustained in a reform chamber 26 on the heat exchanger 24 works to elicit a reforming reaction between high concentration ethanol and the exhaust gas generates a reformed gas containing H ~ 2 ~ and CO. Reformed gas is supplied to an inlet pipe 12 of the internal combustion engine 10 through the reformed gas pipe 34. Separate high concentration ethanol and high concentration gasoline are remixed by a mixer 44 and supplied with a device. fuel injection nozzle 18 for internal combustion engine 10.
