abstract | Abstract of the Disclosure This invention is directed to an apparatus for the preparation of vinyl chloride polymers having a reduced content of residual monomer. The apparatus comprises a vessel having the shape of a cylinder or truncated cone with its axis substantially vertical. The vessel has a closed top and a bottom defining an opening. There is at least one inlet in the upper part of the vessel for supply of solids thereto and a circular disk mounted below the opening. The disk is rotatable about its centre and has a radius larger than the opening. A stationary ring is arranged in sliding contact with the upper surface of the disk, the ring being of larger radius than the opening in the vessel and being interrupted at one point around its periphery. There are means in the lower part of the vessel through which gaseous substances can be blown into the vessel, these means being arranged to provide for substantially uniform distribution of the substances over the cross-sectional area of the vessel. There is at least one outlet for the gaseous substances in the upper part of the vessel. |
