titleOfInvention | In situ oil shale retorting |
abstract | 1. BE IT KNOWN THAT CHANG YUL CHA of 1904 Glenmont Drive, Bakersfield, California 93309, United States of America, having made an invention entitled: "In situ oil shale retorting" the following disclosure contains a correct and full description of the invention and of the best mode known to the inventor of taking advantage of the same. ABSTRACT A locus of processing zone advancing during retorting through a fragmented permeable mass of particles containing oil shale in an in situ oil shale retort in a subterranean formation containing oil shale is determined by monitoring off gas passing from the retort to determine the content in the off gas of a selected constituent formed, by advance-ment of the processing zone through the fragmented mass, from a corresponding precursor contained in the formation particles, The locus of the processing zone is convenient-ly determined by comparing measured and predicted values of the content, rate of production and/or total production of the constituent in the off gas, the predicted values being calculated from the measured content of the precursor at a plurality of locations in the retort along the path of advancement of the processing zone. One preferred precursor:constituent pair is kerogen:methane. |
