abstract Abstract A novel method for fusion welding a terminal post and cover bushing of an assembled battery cell jar and/or for welding an intercell connector to an assembled post and bushing, including directing a radio frequency energy beam onto the components to be welded while encircling those components with a cooling ring to prevent damage to the battery jar. The result is a deep homogenous weld of improved quality.
