abstract ABSTRACT LIGHT-EMITTING-DIODE-PUMPED ALEXANDRITE LASER A light-emitting-diode-pumped alexandrite laser is provided. The laser comprises an alexandrite medium, pumped with one or more light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and enclosed with mirrors to form an optical resonator. By suitable choice of LED composition, a match between LED output and alexandrite absorption provides high optical pumping efficiency. Compact, lightweight construction; long life; and capability for broadly tunable laser output are also achieved.
