titleOfInvention Lighting module for motor vehicle lighting system
abstract D-84-1-041 -21- LIGHTING MODULE FOR MOTOR VEHICLE LIGHTING SYSTEM A lighting module for use in a motor vehicle headlighting system which includes a plurality of such modules and means for mounting the modules in the vehicle in a pair of spaced-apart linear, horizontally disposed arrays. Each array possesses a maximum height of only about two inches and a length greater than the array height. Each module includes a reflector with a lighting capsule mounted therein. The front of the module is enclosed by means of an optically clear cover exclusive of lens elements. A lens which is separately mounted in front of each array of lighting modules can be used for controlling the light emitted therefrom to in turn provide both high and low beam patterns for the vehicle. Each of the arrays comprises four similar modules, resulting in a system containing a total of eight such components, all being similar. Each module, being mostly of plastic and relatively small, is extremely lightweight and can be readily replaced by the vehicle's operator in the event of failure.
