It is intended to provide an agent for preventing and/or ameliorating life style-related diseases which contains, as the active ingredient, a substance originating in a highly safe food material having been frequently taken and is usable in health foods and functional foods such as food with health claims (foods for specified health uses and foods with nutritional functional claims). Namely, an agent for preventing and/or ameliorating life style-related diseases characterized by containing, as the active ingredient, at least one compound selected from the group consisting of ar-turmeron, .alpha.-turmeron, .beta.-turmeron, curlone, bisacumol and .beta.-sesquiphellandrene, or at least one compound selected from among bisabolane-type sesquiterpenoids originating in Curcuma longa L. This agent is useful in preventing and/or ameliorating life style-related diseases such as diabetes, visceral fat-type obesity, metabolic syndrome and obesity. |
