This disclosure relates to plant cells comprising a heterologous expression cassette, the expression cassette comprising a heterologous promoter operably linked to a polynucleotide encoding a PYR/PYL receptor polypeptide, wherein the PYR/PYL receptor polypeptide is characterized by the presence of one or both of a polyketide cyclase domain 2 (PF10604) or a polyketide cyclase domain 1 (PF03364), and wherein the PYR/PYL receptor polypeptide comprises SEQ ID NO:102, wherein the plant cell has improved stress tolerance compared to a plant cell lacking the expression cassette. |
