titleOfInvention Method of extracting crude oil from oil shale or oil sand
abstract Around a first borehole (5), a plurality of second boreholes (6) are drilled in a pattern of several circles through the strata (3) bearing the crude oil down to the strata (4) free of crude oil. A further pattern of third boreholes (7) is likewise drilled in a circular arrangement through the strata (3) bearing the crude oil, adjoining which third boreholes (7) are run-off channels (8) which run down to a collecting chamber (9). The oil-bearing strata are preheated by electrodes arranged in these second boreholes (6), and after that steam is fed in through the same boreholes (6) in order to drive crude oil towards the third boreholes (7). A solvent is fed into the accumulation of crude oil from the third boreholes (7), and the crude oil made free-flowing by the solvent is driven by the introduction of steam from the second boreholes (6) towards the third boreholes (7) before it flows into the collecting chamber (9) in order to pump it out through the first borehole (5). <IMAGE>
