titleOfInvention Exhaust gas purifying apparatus and method for purifying exhaust gas
abstract An exhaust gas purification apparatus having low pressure-loss. The exhaust gas purification apparatus comprises a metal container having a gas inlet side and a gas outlet side, and a honeycomb filter contained in the metal container. The exhaust gas purification apparatus is characterized in that the honeycomb filter comprises a first end face, a second end face, and a plurality of cells partitioned off by cell walls and arranged side by side in the longitudinal direction; in that the cells include first cells which are open on the first end face side and sealed on the second end face side, and second cells which are open on the second end face side and sealed on the first end face side, with the first cells and the second cells being arranged in an alternating manner; in that the cross-sectional area of each first cell in the direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction thereof is smaller than the cross-sectional area of each second cell in the direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction thereof; and in that the first end face side of the honeycomb filter is disposed on the gas inlet side of the metal container and the second end face side of the honeycomb filter is disposed on the gas outlet side of the metal container.
