abstract Fatty amine compositions prepared from C 10 -C 17 monounsaturated acids, octadecene-1,18-dioic acid, or their ester derivatives produced by metathesis are disclosed. In another aspect, the reaction of C 10 -C 17 monounsaturated acids, octadecene-1,18-dioic acids, or their ester derivatives generated by metathesis with aminoalkyl-substituted tertiary amines is disclosed. Preparation of fatty amidoamines. The fatty amines or fatty amidoamines are advantageously sulfonated, sulfitated, oxidized or reduced. In other aspects, the ester derivatives are modified triglycerides prepared by self-metathesis of natural oils, or unsaturated triglycerides prepared by cross-metathesis of natural oils with olefins.
