The present invention provides an oral care composition, wherein the composition contains an ionic liquid, wherein the ionic liquid contains: a) a quaternary ammonium cation of the formula, wherein each of R 1 , R 2 , R 3 and R 4 are organic moieties, which may be the same or different, and at least one of R 1 , R 2 , R 3 , and R 4 includes hydroxyl; and b) is selected from the group consisting of salicylate, alkyl sulfate, sulfate, acetate, halogen ions, phosphates, alkyl phosphates, and tosylate anions; wherein the oral care composition is a mouth rinse, toothpaste, tooth powder, oral beads or strips, liquid-coated dental strips, rinses, plaque removal Liquid, dental floss, hard candies, soft candies, lozenges, gum or lollipops. |
