The present disclosure relates to a packaging material for retortable packaging provided with a decorative pattern, the packaging material (30; 40) having a pigment-coated cardboard material layer (32; 42) and an outer heat-resistant plastic coating ( 33, 34; 43, 44). In order to improve the printability of the paperboard layer (32; 42), the surface (15; 25) of the coated paperboard layer for printing has a pigment coating composition (13; 23b) comprising a pigment mixture, adhesive and a zirconium-based crosslinking agent, wherein the pigment mixture comprises at least 40% by weight calcium carbonate and at least 10% by weight clay. |
