A vehicle control device (50) is applied to a vehicle (901, 902), and the vehicle (901, 902) has an engine (70) as a power source, an MG (60), and a host battery (20) that can perform power transmission with the MG via an inverter (40). The vehicle control device controls the operations of the engine and the MG and can control the power transmission between the engine and the MG. When abnormality of the main machine battery is detected, the vehicle control device cuts off a power supply relay (21) provided between the main machine battery and the inverter to stop the power running operation of the MG. The vehicle control device suppresses rotation of the MG by removing at least one of the causes of the MG rotation speed increase due to the operation of the vehicle while maintaining vehicle running by the engine. |
