abstract The present invention relates to a friction transmission belt comprising an extension layer forming a back surface of the belt, a compression layer formed on one side of the extension layer and having at least a part of a transmission surface that can be brought into contact with a pulley, and the extension layer and the belt pulley. A friction drive belt with a core wire embedded in the belt length direction between compression layers, wherein at least the compression layer is composed of a rubber composition containing a polymer component, short fibers and a surfactant, and the short fibers include at least water-absorbing fibers of short fibers.
