Medical products and methods configured for controlled release of nitric oxide |
abstract |
The present disclosure relates to various medical devices implemented to provide a nitric oxide-rich environment for antimicrobial or anti-thrombotic benefits. The medical device generally comprises a nitric oxide donor material contained within a sealed cavity, and a transport medium defining and trapping the entire cavity, wherein the transport medium is permeable to both water and nitric oxide. When the nitric oxide donor material becomes saturated with water from the surrounding tissue or fluid, nitric oxide is chemically released and the generated nitric oxide is delivered to the treatment site through the transport medium for antimicrobial and antithrombotic benefits. |
