The present invention provides a process for the preparation of a polycarbamate comprising adding urea to a polyol in the presence of at least one catalyst selected from the group consisting of compounds having the formula M m Zn; wherein M is two A valence metal, and Z is an anionic functional group or a functional group capable of forming a covalent bond with M, and where n times the valence of Z equals X and m times two equals Y, where the absolute value of X equals the absolute value of Y. Also provided are polycarbamates made according to the method and coating compositions comprising the polycarbamates. |
