abstract |
The present invention relates to a method for distinguishing live microorganisms and dead microorganisms in a sample by distinguishing between transcriptionally active microorganism nucleic acid sequences and transcriptionally inert microorganism nucleic acid sequences in the sample. In particular, the method according to the invention is based on the comparison of nucleotide substitution levels in samples incubated in the presence of RNA labeling agents. The present invention also relates to a method of diagnosing a microbial infection in a subject; and a method of implementing the method of differentiation according to the present invention to assess the risk of contamination of a sample. |
