abstract | The present application discloses thermal sensor devices and methods for detecting failure of the thermal sensor devices. The thermal sensor device is configured to determine a fluid parameter of the fluid based on the heat transfer behavior of the fluid. The sensor arrangement includes one or more heaters and means for determining the response of the sensor arrangement to heater power supplied to the heaters. In order to detect sensor failures, the sensor device operates in two different operating modes. The first and second values of the same fluid parameter ( cstatic , cdynamic ) are determined in both modes. The fault indicator value (F) is obtained by comparing the first value and the second value. The first mode of operation may be a steady state mode, the first value ( cstatic ) is based on the steady state response of the sensor device to heater power supplied to the heater, and the second mode of operation may be a dynamic mode, the second value ( cstatic ) ) based on the transient response. |
