Disclosed herein is an improved and cost-effective method for preparing nitroxoline (5-nitro-8-oxoquinoline) free of process-related genotoxic impurities. The method of the present invention significantly controls the formation of an undesired by-product, namely 7-nitronitroquinoline, during the oxidation of 5-nitroso-8-hydroxyquinoline, and enables the yield and purity of the product improvement. |
