Removable receptacles and metal inserts for making metal droplet jet three-dimensional (3D) object printers for printing |
abstract |
The present invention is titled removable receptacles and metal inserts for making metal droplet jet three-dimensional (3D) object printers for printing. A three-dimensional (3D) metal object fabrication apparatus is equipped with removable receptacles to reduce the time required to initiate processes after printer maintenance. The removable receptacle is filled with solid metal that is heated to its melting temperature to begin the printing operation before the bulk wire is inserted into the receptacle. The melting of the solid metal in the removable receptacle requires less time than melting of a length of bulk wire sufficient to produce a volume of molten metal suitable for printer operation. The solid metal in the removable receptacle may be metal pellets, metal powder or solid metal inserts. |
