Process for producing particulate, expandable styrenic polymers by polymerizing styrene, optionally together with comonomers, in aqueous suspension with the addition of a blowing agent before, during or after polymerization by polymerizing in the presence of 5 to 50% by weight, based on monomers, of expanded graphite, optionally 2 to 20% by weight, based on monomers, of the phosphorus compound. The particulate, expandable styrene polymers have expanded graphite having a mean particle size of 20 to 100 µm. They are used to produce polystyrene particulate foamed materials that meet the requirements of fire classes B 1 and B 2. |
