Metal reinforced graphite laminate and its use |
abstract |
Each outer layer on both upper and lower faces is a metal foil (9,9''') and each of these layers is covered with a gas tight film (10,10') of an organic polymer with long term resistance to temperatures ≥ 150 degrees C. An Independent claim is made for a use of the laminated material in the manufacture of seals. Preferred Features: Graphite films (8-8''') and metal foils (9-9''') are laminated together without using adhesive. One of the metal foils in the center of the laminate may be perforated. Various laminate constructions comprise: a) alternate metal foils and graphite films with the outer layers being metal foils; b) a central graphite layer with outer metal foils, or c) a central perforated metal foil with graphite layers on each side and two outermost metal foils. In each case the outer metal foils are covered in polymer film (10,10'). Polymer films are thermally welded to the metal foils under pressure. |
