titleOfInvention 2nd order PMD emulator
abstract An arrangement for generating a predeterminable polarization mode dispersion is described, with DOLLAR A - a first polarization splitter / combiner element, which splits the incoming signal into two signals with a polarization direction perpendicular to one another, DOLLAR A - a delay unit, which occurs in one of the signal paths of the two (split) signals is arranged, DOLLAR A - a second polarization splitter / combiner element which brings the two separated signals together again. DOLLAR A The invention is characterized in that an element is provided for producing a polarization mode dispersion of the second order, which rotates the polarization main axis in front of and behind the element by a suitable angle to one another, and in that the light signal emerging from this element is fed into an arrangement which also consists of a polarization splitter / combiner element, a delay line and a further polarization splitter / combiner element for merging the two signal lines.
