abstract |
An exhaust gas purification catalyst system comprising an upstream catalyst and a downstream catalyst provided upstream and downstream in an exhaust gas flow in an exhaust passage of an engine, wherein each of the upstream catalyst and the downstream catalyst comprises a Rh-comprising catalyst layer comprising Rh and provided on a substrate; the Rh catalyst comprising the upstream catalyst as oxygen storage / release materials Rh-doped CeZr-based composite oxide containing Ce and Zr and also containing Rh dissolved therein, and Rh-charged CeZr-based composite oxide containing Ce and Zr and Rh on a surface of the same carries, the Rh catalyst layer of the downstream catalyst as the oxygen storage / release material comprises only the Rh-doped CeZr-based composite oxide containing Ce and Zr and also contains Rh dissolved therein, a proportion of the oxygen storage / release material contained per 1 liter of the substrate in the Rh catalyst layer of the upstream catalyst is smaller than that of the downstream catalyst, and the Rh-doped CeZr-based composite oxide contained as an oxygen storage / release material in the Rh catalyst layer of the upstream catalyst shows a particle size distribution having a peak particle size smaller than that of the Rh-doped CeZr-based composite oxide used as Oxygen storage / release material in the Rh catalyst layer of the downstream catalyst is included. |
