The invention relates to a process for the preparation of organic compounds and products from these organic compounds, wherein carbon dioxide (CO2) is converted electrochemically into reduced C1 compounds at a cathode and a methylotrophic microorganism producing the organic compound or a cell or crude extract thereof which is at least has a metabolic pathway for the utilization of the C1 compounds as carbon and energy source is cultivated. The organic compounds are obtained after accumulation in the cells of the microorganism or release into the medium. |
