abstract |
An aluminum casting engine block for a compression-ignition internal combustion engine includes a plurality of cylinders arranged in a series arrangement. The engine block includes an upper portion including an upper deck and a lower portion including a plurality of main bearings arranged to support crankshaft journal. An integrated flow channel is formed between the second end and the last cylinder and proximal to the upper deck, and is a continuous channel extending from the first side to the second side through the portion of the engine block between the second end and the last cylinder and proximal to upper deck runs. A coolant channel is disposed in the engine block between the integrated flow channel and the last cylinder and is aligned parallel to the height axis. |
