abstract |
A high-pressure gas discharge lamp (HID [high intensity discharge] lamp) is described which is mercury-free and is particularly suitable for use in automotive technology. The lamp is characterized in particular by the fact that an increase in the temperature of the coldest (lower) floor areas (10) is achieved by an asymmetrical electrode arrangement, so that the light-accumulating substances accumulated there change into the gaseous state in sufficient quantity after the lamp is switched on , The temperature of the hottest (upper) wall areas (13) does not increase, but can even be reduced. A major advantage of this lamp is that its external shape, the dimensions and the electrodes (3) per se do not have to be changed if the lamp is operated in a horizontal position with vertically directed bruises (5) and the electrodes (3) correspondingly shifted downwards each attached to a metal foil (4). |
