abstract | Elastomeric trans-1,4-polybutadiene can be made using a catalyst system comprising an organocobalt compound, an organoaluminum compound, a para-alkyl substituted phenol and ortho-phenylphenol, the molar ratio of para-substituted phenol to organoaluminum Compound is in the range of about 1.2: 1 to 1.8: 1 and the molar ratio of ortho-phenylphenol to organoaluminium compound is in the range of about 0.7: 1 to 1.3: 1 and the organoaluminum compound is reacted with the ortho-phenylphenol before coming into contact with the organocobalt compound. The elastomeric trans-1,4-polybutadiene obtained does not need to be heated before it is used for the production of rubber mixtures. |
