titleOfInvention Valve timing control arrangement for an internal combustion engine
abstract A valve timing control arrangement for an internal combustion engine, comprising: a sensor device for detecting operating conditions of the internal combustion engine (1); a crank angle sensor (14) for generating a crank angle signal including a train of pulses corresponding to respective rotational angles of a crankshaft of the internal combustion engine (1); an intake camshaft (15C) and an exhaust camshaft (16C) for respectively driving intake and exhaust valves of the internal combustion engine (1) in synchronization with the rotation of the crankshaft; a cam angle changing device mounted on at least one of the intake and exhaust camshafts (15C, 16C) for changing the phase of the at least one camshaft (15C, 16C) relative to the crankshaft; a cam angle sensor (17, 18) mounted on the at least one camshaft whose phase is changed relative to the crankshaft by the cam angle changing device, for generating a cam angle signal for identifying respective cylinders of the internal combustion engine (1) and detecting a cam angle of the at least one camshaft whose relative phase to the crankshaft is changed by the cam angle changing device; a reference crank angle position calculating device for calculating reference crank angle positions based on the crank angle position signal; a cam angle calculating device for calculating the cam angle based on the crank angle signal and the cam angle signal; and a cam angle control device for controlling the cam angle changing device based on the operating conditions of the internal combustion engine (1) and the cam angle calculated by the cam angle calculating device such that the phase of the camshaft (15C, 16C) is controlled relative to the crankshaft to coincide with a target cam angle that corresponds to the operating conditions of the internal combustion engine (1); wherein the cam angle calculating device calculates the cam angle by counting the number of pulses of the crank angle signal; and wherein the cam angle control device comprises a cam angle learning device for learning ...
