abstract |
A process for manufacturing an extendable material by stacking material strips using a carriage moving backwards and forwards along a frame relative to a material supply: a) moving the carriage(14) to a first supply of material, gripping the material(46) and drawing off a first strip; b) pressing the first strip onto a carrier to start a stack of strips and cutting off the first strip to a prescribed length; c) gripping a second supply of material with the carriage and drawing a second strip away from the supply in a second direction; d) applying adhesive to the upper surface(62) of the stack, pressing the second strip onto the stack and cutting off to the prescribed length; e) repeating the procedures a) to d) to build up a stack forming the extendable material. Process equipment comprises a frame(12) along which a carriage(14) moves to draw individual strips(46) from a material supply rolls(50,52); a stacking unit(18) for the individual strips; an adhesive applicator(60); a frame-mounted press(16) which moves backwards and forwards perpendicular to the carriage movement to press strips onto the stack and cutting edges(110) for cutting off individual strips. |
