abstract The invention relates to a heater designed for external wall connection, with a gas burner, a combustion chamber and a heat exchanger in a closed housing, further with a fan that promotes fresh air into the housing and with baffles in the housing that branch off a partial volume from the total flow of fresh air which reaches an exhaust gas space via a cooling shaft surrounding the combustion chamber. It is proposed that the entire delivery volume of the fresh air be directed via a flow path (36) surrounding the cooling shaft (26, 46) into the area of the plane of the gas burner (10) or into its mixing area (34) and that the combustion chamber (12 ) cooling partial volume of the fresh air is branched off into the cooling shaft (26, 46) only in this area. It is thereby achieved that in the area of the preferably atmospheric gas burner the entire delivery volume of the air is available, from which the burner can be adequately supplied on the primary and secondary side even in the case of limited space.
