titleOfInvention Rapid cooling rolled rod - of structural steel by a controlled - water quench method
abstract Accelerated cooling of hot rolled rod of carbon steel made on alloy steel rolling streets comprises a first cooling stage immediately after leaving the last roll in an enclosed compartmented water cooling installation in which the material is cooled down to 150 degrees C, following which it is allowed in still air when the temp. between out- and inside evens out again and the required structure is allowed to develop, this being succeeded by a final cooling in which the steel is fully submerged in the cooling bed. Plants laid out for this yield reduced scale on final product have improved flexibility of operation, and permit faster throughput.
