abstract | Continuous analysis of molten metal is facilitated by introducing a source of radioactivity into the melt and registering the individual characteristic X-rays for the various types of atoms with a detector which emits pulses which are fed to a multichannel spectrometer. This sorts the signals into energy as well as intensity, and these are then compared with desired values and are evaluated for control purposes, e.g. by a computer to regulate furnace charging. Pref. the radioactive cpd. is Co is association with a counter tube with a borom metal window. |
