Dust (SiO2) from waste gases generated in prodn. of Si alloys in electric furnace plus opt. exothermically reacting additives e.g. coal, coke or sawdust, Fe or Mn oxide, to modify properties, can be used as protective or insulating covering pref. as granules or to make feeder plugs for mould or continuous casting processes. It possesses a low bulk weight (150-200g/dm3), good flowing props., forms easily separable slag, does not separate out during storage or transportation, excellent insulator, refractory. |
