titleOfInvention | RECHANGING REEL WITH POLYGONAL CROSS SECTION AND PROCESS AND DEVICE FOR THEIR PRODUCTION |
abstract | The spirally wound packaging sleeve has a polygonal cross section and is foldable along its long edges, thus being collapsible over its cross section into a flat configuration. This is enabled by longitudinal grooves embossed either into its inner or outer corners of its longitudinal edges. Preferably two more grooves are embossed on the opposite wall of the sleeve, closely spaced from the edge corner grooves. The sleeve is wound from paper, plastics, or fabric on a stationary mandrel and subsequently deformed into a polygonal cross section. The wound material is used in thin, adhesive coated layers and wound spirally in overlapping manner. While the adhesive is still wet, the longitudinal grooves are embossed during cross-sectional deformation. |
