abstract |
The forest fire fighting system is designed to make the installation more versatile and to shorten the prepn. time. The hoses are carried in folded containers which can be brought to the disaster area either by lorry or landed by helicopter in spots inaccessible by road. Several containers may be necessary to connect the water source with the final container to which the fire fighting hoses are connected. The containers are fitted with self-contained pumping units, which, for greater distances, acts as relay pumps to produce the necessary pressure. When the lengths of hosing have been used to connect the containers with each other through their respective pumping units, the empty spaces previously occupied by the folded hoses can be used as equalising tanks. |
