| abstract |
New alpha-cyanofatty acid-N-hydroxyalkyl amides have formula R'-CHCH-CONR2R3 (I) (where R1 is 6-20C alkyl, R2 is 2-6C hydroxyalkyl, opt. interrupted by an oxy- or imino gp. and R3 is H or a hydroxyalkyl R2 gp.). The cpd. n-C12H25 CHCNCONH(CH2CH2OH) is prepd. by reacting equimolar proportions of C12H25CHCNCOOEt and HOCH2-CH2NH2. (I) are used as wash-active ingredients in cleansing and detergent compsns., esp. detergents for cold washing textiles by machine. The use of as little as 0.3-2.5 (0.5-1.5) wt.% (I) synergetically increases the washing power of surfactants, esp. in cold water baths, e.g. at 10-30 (15-25) degrees C. |
