titleOfInvention MACHINING WORKPIECES FROM SPROED-BROKEN MATERIALS
abstract According to the invention, the plane side cross-grinding process is used to machine workpieces made of brittle materials having a minimum Vickers hardness of 5000 N/mm<2>. The present invention facilitates the grinding of plane surfaces with grinding discs according to the design principle of known cup wheels such as those which have hitherto been used in side grinding, but with completely unforeseeable advantages. According to the present invention, a plane surface to be machined is subjected, without any feed motion, to the action of a rotating grinding wheel which advances and is of the cup-wheel type, the plane grinding face of the grinding wheel partially, or preferably completely, covering the extent of the surface to be machined and being in one piece or built up of segments. According to the invention, far higher grinding abrasion than hitherto is achieved, with optimum surface properties.
