titleOfInvention DISPLAY DEVICE WITH A CONTROL PANEL
abstract In a display in which electrons from a plasma cathode are selectively passed through a perforated control plate (4) into a postacceleration chamber, acquire energies of a few kV and, finally, produce spots of light on a fluorescent screen, the control unit is constructed in the following way: a photoetchable self-supporting plate (4) has row or column conductors (11, 12) on both sides of it. The conductors extend into the plate holes to a specified penetration depth. Said holes each comprise an entry channel (13) and at least one exit channel (14) adjacent thereto. The exit channel is offset with respect to its associated entry channel, with the cross sections of both channels partly overlapping. Preferred exemplary embodiment: the plate is a glass pane about 1 mm thick; the conductors are composed of a printed baked conducting silver layer pattern and penetrate the channels to a depth of about 0.4 mm. The proposed control structure makes a high display contrast possible, prevents electrical breakdowns and can be manufactured without exceptional expense. Main field of application: flat display screens with high pixel density. <IMAGE>
