titleOfInvention POST-LAUNDRY PRESS WITH MEMBRANE
abstract A batch-type laundry press (10) has a cylinder/diaphragm arrangement (11) with a supporting cylinder (13) and a diaphragm (14), as well as a closing plate (12). Laundry (22) to be pressed out can be introduced into the interior of the cylinder/diaphragm arrangement. The laundry is compacted somewhat by a compacting piston (25) which has at the bottom a deformable ram (28) made of incompressible material. When water is pumped through an orifice (17) into the pressure space (16) between the supporting cylinder and diaphragm, the diaphragm is thereby pressed into the interior of the cylinder/ diaphragm arrangement, the ram also experiencing deformation. As a result, the laundry to be pressed out is pressed by its circumference in the form of a cylinder shell and from above. The expelled water runs off through bores (24) in the closing plate. A press of this type is of very simple construction. Almost the entire pressing force is absorbed by the supporting cylinder. The supporting device for the compacting piston can therefore be of very simple construction. In conventional batch-type laundry presses, in which pressing has been carried out with a piston, the supporting device for the piston has had to absorb the entire extremely high pressing forces. <IMAGE>
