abstract A heat exchanger, in particular a water heater, consists of a number of elements over the outsides of which a heating medium, preferably the flue gas of a burner, is guided. The medium to be heated is guided in a set of channels (1, 2) which extend in parallel and form a wall element (3). Attached to the edges of said wall element, which are situated opposite one another and are perpendicular to the channels (1, 2), are collector elements (4) for media guided in the channels (1, 2). Two different media can be guided in the channels (1, 2) in uniflow or counter flow to respectively one of the two collector elements (4). The heating flue gases are guided between wall elements (3) arranged next to one another in parallel. Both the wall elements (3) and the collector elements (4) can be profiled in such a way that they can be manufactured cost-effectively using an extrusion or pressure die-casting method. <IMAGE>
