Process for the reductive dehydrohalogenation of linear or branched, open-chain or cyclic alkanes or alkenes, aromatic or araliphatic hydrocarbons, or aliphatic or cyclic ethers contg. one or more halogen atoms (I) comprises reaction of (I) with hydrogen in the gas phase at 200-700 deg C in the presence of active C, with formation of HHal. Pref. (I) are olefinic mono-halo cpds., vicinal di- or poly-halo-alkanes (esp. 1,2-dichloropropane (DCP)), vicinal di- or poly-halo- cycloalkanes and/or dihalo-dialkyl ethers; reaction is carried out at 0.5-10 (pref. 0.8-3, esp. pref. about 1) bar; the HHal produced is removed by absorption in water, and unreacted (I) or any halogenated hydrocarbons formed as intermediates are sepd. from the HHal-free prod. stream by distn. and returned to the reaction. |
