Novel phenylcyclohexanes of formula (I) in which: L<1> and L<2> are CH3 or one of the residues L<1> and L<2> may also be C2H5 or L<1>L<2>CH- is also (a), (b), (c), or (d), where R is H or straight-chained lower alkyl with up to 5 C atoms; n is 0 to 5; Q is -O- or CH2-; A is trans-1,4-cyclohexylene, 1,4-phenylene, 3-fluoro-1,4-phenylene or a single bond; X is F, Cl, -CF3, -CN, -OCF3 or -OCHF2; and Y and Z are independently H or F; may be used as components of liquid crystal media. |
