Recording, reproducing and erasing of information on and from an optical recording medium having a film consisting of a binder and a bis(thienylethene anhydride) photochromic cpd. of formula (I) with a light-activated ring opening/ring closing site comprises (i) recording by irradiation of the film with 300-500 nm light such that the temp. reaches T1 and ring closure of (I) occurs; (ii) reproducing the information by irradiation with 300-500 nm light to give temp. R2 which is below T1; and (iii) erasing by irradiating with 500-700 nm light so as to give temp. T1 and ring open cpd. (I). In (I), P and Q = opt. substd. benzene or naphthalene rings; and Me = methyl. ADVANTAGE - Medium has good reproduction. |
