abstract In a process for improving the dye affinity of aromatic polyamides with NH3, aramid fibres are treated in liquid NH3 and then dyed with basic dye. Treatment in liquid NH3 is carried out for 3 s to 10 min at -40 to -33 deg C and atmos. pressure. After padding, the NH3 is removed by steaming or rinsing. The aramid fibres must remain damp, pref. with a water content of over 100%, between pretreatment and dyeing.
